How to Install Solar Panels: Contract Signing

There is a process to follow while installing solar panels. At first, you will have to sign an agreement with the site owners.

In the agreement, you will have to list out terms and conditions that will bond the project. Moreover, some key information must not be excluded from your proposal.

Among those important items that you need to include in your proposal are:

1. The size and location of the system.

The average size of the solar system is dependent on the electricity usage of your client and the number of panels required. This is done by adding up the wattage of all home appliances.

In most instances, the solar proposal should reflect the capacity of the solar system measured in kilowatts or kW. Similarly, for larger commercial or industrial facilities, it will be measured in megawatts or mW.

In addition, it is advised that you have an overhead view of the assets of your clients displaying the overlaid solar panels. This will give your client a good idea of what his or her property will look like once the proposed solar system is installed

2. The components (equipment) of the system.

Here, you need to list every piece of equipment that is needed for the project. Having it in mind that this paper is binding you and your clients, omitting any equipment will be at your own cost.

3. The solar system cost and financial incentives.

Costing is one of the key item in the proposal. Every equipment listed in the proposal must have a detailed price.

Besides, some state or region gives financial incentives. For example, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the United States of America decides who and what incentives to offer.

4. The energy offset and environmental impact of the system.

The side effect of installing solar panels – positively or negatively – you need to make clear in your proposal. Ordinarily, solar energy systems do not cause air pollution or gas emissions.

5. The warranties and guarantees from you and equipment manufacturers.

This is where you will state what warranties and guarantees of each product.

6. The project scope.

This is where all aspects of a project are detailed. These include all related activities, resources, timelines, and deliverables, as well as the boundaries of the project.

7. The project schedule.

In your contract, you need to have a defined schedule of work when planning to install solar panels. You are more likely to set a sound benchmark from the start when you are able to define the needs of a project.

8. The payment terms.

You should list out your payment terms with an agreement with your customer. What amount would you be paid before the beginning of work? Is there a discount at all? After the first deposit, when will you deliver it? Many of these questions and more should be discussed in your terms of payment.

9. The investment analysis, and so on.

How to Install Solar Panels: Site Survey

How to Install Solar Panels: Site Survey

Before installing a solar panel, you will have to visit the site for a site survey. You will need to determine where your solar panels will be facing.

In this situation, having it in mind that your solar panels are facing the south. Thus, receiving the full amount of total sunlight.

With the help of SolarEdge Monitoring, you will be able to remotely monitor your solar installation. Remember that your solar panel installation should be tilted between a 30- and 40-degree angle.

Besides, you will check the electrical conditions of the property, confirm that it aligned with your new proposed energy system. Thereafter, you will inspect the roof to ensure that it’s structurally sound.

Moreover, whether or not you will upgrade your electrical panel (the gray box in your basement), will have to be looked at. You may be asked to upgrade the electrical panel if the amperage of new solar panels is higher than your electrical box’s amperage capacity.

How to Install Solar Panels: Getting Permits

To get approval for installing solar panels, lots of documentation is involved. Depending on the state or region of installation, you will have to your customer for the approved document. Otherwise, you will have to handle it all for your client.

In the United State of America for example, some incentives are given if applied for. Among these are federal solar incentives such as the federal ITC, clean energy financing initiatives like “PACE”, government rebates, and so on.

Similarly, other papers, such as construction permits, will need to be completed. These licenses are unique to each state or region.

In some jurisdictions, the roof is mandatory to have three feet set back covering the solar panels. However, some states would allow you to mount panels around the entire roof’s surface.

Of course, you should know the requirements and permits of the states in which you work.

How to Install Solar Panels: Choosing and Ordering Equipment

Now that all documentation is in place, next is to order the equipment from the main dealer. At this point, if your customers really want to order it by themselves, you will have to recommend a specific brand and a specific store.

I will recommend the following steps to install the solar panels:

Step 1: Find the Best Location

It is advisable to choose a location that will allow the solar panels full exposure to the sun.

Step 2: Build the Racking Platform

With the length and width of the panels in mind, construct the racking mounting system. Ensured it is solid enough to handle any form of weather condition. You can use either metal or aluminum rails.

Step 3: Mount the Panels

Next, mounting the solar panels on the racking system. Finally, you will have to attach the solar panel to the inverter. thus, transforming direct current (DC) energy into alternating current (AC) energy used in homes and on the power grid.

How to Install Solar Panels: Grounding the System

Properly grounding the electrical components of your solar system is an essential step. For one, grounded electrical connections reduce the risk of shock, power surges, and the build-up of static electricity. Moreover, if the circuit fails, grounding allows a safe pathway for fault current.

To know more about grounding the system, go to “how to ground your solar system”.

How to Install Solar Panels: Connect the Electrical Components

If the solar device has a battery bank as a backup, the number of components would be much. In this case, make sure that the contacts between the plates, the charge controller, the battery, and the inverter are all tightened.

How to Install Solar Panels: Approval and Test Running

The solar panel installation needs approval from your local authority officials. otherwise, you will not be allowed to connect it to the grid. These officials will ensure that the wiring is properly connected and that the mounting is secure.

The aim of the test run is to guarantee that everything is operating normally. Thereafter, it’s time to close the book and start reaping the rewards of going solar.
